  • Manage and develop Internet and network services for CALI, including web, database, email, and remote file services. The CALI website, http://www.cali.org/, is visited by over 2,000 law students a day who run over 3,000 CALI Lessons each day.
  • Manage 5 servers in Chicago and 4 servers in Atlanta, running Linux, Windows 2000 and Windows NT.
  • Plan, develop, and implement audio visual and infrastructure needs for the annual Conference for Law School Computing, including the encoding and webcasting of 60+ hours of video and co-ordinating local IT support.
  • Provide support for 5 CALI staff in hardware and software issues including PC configuration, remote file access, and email.
  • Provide support for CALI members in use of the CALI website and associated technologies.
  • Track, analyze, and recommend new technologies, hardware and software, in the context of CALI’s mission.
  • Communicate with co-workers in CALI offices in Chicago, Atlanta, and Minneapolis.

Achievements

  • Design and implementation of digital recording and podcast system for American Association of Law Schools. Used to record and podcast sessions at the annual meeting.
  • Design and implementation of the Classcaster system which provides blogging and telephony-enabled podcasting tools for CALI member schools’ faculty, librarians, and staff. See http://www.classcaster.org/.
  • Redesign and migration of CALI web site from closed source Windows-based platform to open source Linux-based platform using Apache, MySQL, and PHP. This includes design of a new security model, redesign of lesson access, and creation of a style sheet based layout.
  • Redesign and migration of CALI administrative database systems from Microsoft Access to MySQL. This includes systems for membership tracking, user registration, lesson tracking, and conference management.
  • Participated in design and development of AutoPublish and ScoreSave features of CALIAuthor.
  • Implementation of a wiki for the use of CALI staff to improve communication flow.

  • Acted as system administrator of Law School’s 220-node, 800-user LAN which runs Novell IntranetWare 4.11, GroupWise 5.2, and ManageWise 2.6.
  • Developed, with faculty and library staff, computer assisted legal education tools.
  • Coordinated and provided training in the use of electronic tools and resources.
  • Encouraged incorporation of new technologies and resources necessary to the mission of the Law School.

Achievements

  • Planned and implemented upgrade from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 for all Law School users, including training faculty and staff in the use of Windows 95.
  • Planned and implemented upgrade from Novell NetWare 3.12 to Novell IntraNetWare 4.11. Redesigned the network server layout, designed NetWare Directory Services schema, and developed offsite access to LAN, primarily through NWIP.

  • Developed database applications for Law Library using World Wide Web-based front ends and the mSQL database engine on back end.
  • Oversaw development of World Wide Web resources for College of Law. These resources included general information about the College, upcoming events, student organizations, and programs.
  • Developed, implemented, and administered 21-bay CD-ROM network utilizing Novell NetWare 4.1 for College of Law.
